FAQs / important info

who owns the images?

1

Photographers always own full rights to the images taken (this is copywrite law) unless a special contract with additional fees are made between the client & photographer. See this great article explaining photo rights

can vendors or contractors reshare the images?

2

Techinically no. Despite what happens all the time on social media, someone besides the client can not use, share/repost an image without the sole permission of the photographer. Most furniture makers, magazines, etc know this and do it anyway. This really hurts our industry. If you respect and care for your photographer and their work, always be transparent with them so arrangements can be made - whether that is the vendor paying for usage rights, coming up with a cost share contract before the shoot, or at the very least giving the photographer the opportunity to decide if it is okay with them for it to be shared complimentary. We can not help if we aren’t communicated with and then no one wins and laws are broken.

Again, this article does a great job explaining why photographers charge for outside usage
